The Workplace Coping Strategies study is an online, free, 4-lesson course for employees with anxiety and/or depression who are struggling with their symptoms at work. The course provides employees with information on symptom identification and gives tips on how to manage symptoms in the workplace.
The Workplace Coping Strategies study was developed to help employees with depression and/or anxiety symptoms who are working for Canadian companies. We hope to help employees by providing information on:
Our hope is that by learning this information employees will see an improvement in their work functioning and possibly a reduction in symptoms.
As this is a new course being studied, participants will be randomly assigned to either begin the course right away or wait 8-weeks before beginning the course. The Workplace Coping Strategies course is made up of 4 easy to understand lessons that participants have 4 weeks to complete. Lessons consist of educational materials that are accessed online and are based on research evidence. Participants are encouraged to work on various activities during the course, which may take 30 to 45mins to complete. Participants will also be asked to complete short questionnaires, so we can track changes in symptoms and work functioning.
The Workplace Coping Strategies Course is not a therapist-assisted program. This means that during the week, participants will work on the lessons and worksheets at their own pace without guidance or support from a therapist. Participants will be provided with links to mental health resources, crisis services, and government websites on the rights of employees. The primary researcher will also be available to answer computer-related or administrative questions.
This project is being completed as part of a PhD research study conducted by Nichole Faller, MA, under the supervision of Dr. Heather Hadjistavropoulos, Professor of Psychology.
All clients will complete questionnaires before they begin the course and then again 4 and 8 weeks after the course ends. These questionnaires help us assess how the course has impacted participants and allows us to improve the course for future use based on participant feedback. These questionnaires do not take very long but provide us with very important information on the benefits and limitations of the course.

The Workplace Coping Strategies Course is not recommended if you have severe problems with alcohol or drugs, mania, psychosis, or strong thoughts of suicide.
